Disgustingly late 2019 lipstick empties: swatches and reviews

It's a-me a-Mario.

Somehow, I managed to be EVEN WORSE than last year. A 2019 lipstick empties post on the eve of April 2020. I've neglected this blog for so long but somehow, I don't want to consign it to the dustbin of history. Not while I'm still mega OCD about lipstick and hoard my depleted tubes like a tally of mates I ain't got.

Plus, we're in the middle of a dystopian pandemic that's forcing us to confront our archives of procrastinations. So, to you, my only reader, I present:

The Seven Lipsticks I Murdered Last Year

1: Primark Beauty P.S.. Workout Lip Fix.

Primark Beauty PS Work Out lip fix- warm up

This is the shade 'Warm Up', which is a toasty gentle terracotta. It's an effortlessly flattering shade on my warm olive complexion, which is why it got a lot of use. It's a typical liquid to matte affair with a doefoot applicator, and it was two quid. Not sure about wearing lipstick to hit the gym but I won't knock it coz I ain't tried it.

2: BareMinerals Gen Nude matte liquid lip color.

I already did a full review on this badboy here, so I won't go into detail on this one. It's cute and comfy. The shade is 'Icon'.

3: Essence Cosmetics Matt Matt Matt longlasting lipgloss.

Essence cosmetics Matt Matt Matte longlasting lipgloss- Beauty Aprroved

I love Essence! They do such cute and affordable makeup. I don't care that I'm 26, gimme that ridiculous palette. This particular cutie has a moussey texture that eventually settles down to a matte finish, though it retains some squishiness and doesn't fully dry. This is the light rose pink olive skintones pray for. This is the shade 'Beauty Approved'. Or it was. These are now sadly discontinued.

4: MUA Cosmetics Power Pout colour intense tint+balm.

MUA Cosmetics Power Pout colour intense tint+balm- Rendezvous

I am LIVID that this stick of balmy gorgeousness has been discontinues. SEETHING. Good job I bought a backup. Oh yeah, I love it that much. I even bought one for my mum, who loves it even though she is very fussy about lip products. Ok, so I've only ever tried this shade- 'Rendezvous'- and bought it again and again because it's just so perfect that I saw no point in further wandering. Like a sheer, moisturising, easy to wear nude that doesn't make you look dead? Like a just-bitten raspberry pink stain? Like an adorable transition period between the two states of bliss? Well I do. I bloody well do.

5: Creme Cosmetics matte lipstick

Creme Cosmetics matte lipstick- Devoted

Erm, I can't give much detail on this one because the brand- an indie affair I stumbled upon on Instagram- has vanished without a trace. But isn't it so lovely? Happy and feminine. The shade is called 'Devoted', in case you care about shade names like I do. Oh, and it was in one of those clicky pen tubes but I broke it, so I depotted into the little palette in the squad pic.

6: Look Beauty Fat Lips! Intense Colour balm and stain.

Look Beauty Fat Lips!- Snog

Shoot me, it's another juicy pinky balmy crayon. I've been a fiend for the moisturising lip stuff for a while now. I've developed eczema which means my face is often like parchment, so anything that can allow me to smile without cracking my entire mug is a is instantly in my good books. This is a cute coral-pink, though unexceptional I guess. And guess what? It's another discontinues brand! You're very welcome. Oh, and the shade is called 'Snog'.

7: Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipstick.

Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipstick- Girl Gang

Hnng. Well I do love my budget lippies, but this sassy lady from Smashbox really won my heart. Such a deep, velvety purple, and really comfy wear for a liquid matte. It looks dry and patchy in this pic, but that's just because there was barely anything left to scrape out. I took it right to the finish line and beyond. This shade is 'girl gang' but I own a couple of other shades and they are excellent too. Rrp £19, but they go for cheaper on various makeup sites.

And that's that. If I survive the virus, I might check in around these parts again.

primark beauty makeup haul- review and swatches

What feels better than buying new makeup? Buying new makeup that's hella cheap.  What feels better than buying new makeup that's hella cheap? Buying new makeup that's hella cheap and hella great quality too. Let us begin today's review.

Ta da. So I was having a browse in Primark yeah, and I came across a new stand of Pro Beauty makeup, which appears to be a higher quality range than the still-good P.S Love makeup. The prices are fractionally more expensive  (we're talking three quid for a lippy instead of one quid) but the line up is impressive. There are clear anti feathering lip liners, felt tip lip liners (very novel!), colour correction palettes, lip glosses, foundations and loads of other cool things. Obviously, being the lipstick addict that I am, I  picked up one of the rick colour lipsticks from the range. I got the shade 'boudoir pink', a soft mauve shade.

Primark pro beauty rich colour lipstick

It's one of those lipsticks that click open at the base to release the tube. Lots of fun. Anyway, the lipstick itself is lovely. Creamy and smooth and moist. A great first foray into the Pro Beauty range. Here's a cheeky swatch:

Up next, a not so soft lippy. If you're a regular reader, you'll know I'm not one to shy away from bright shades. In fact, they positively excite me. So imagine how I squealed in surprise to find an unconventional colour on the high street- bright blue no less! Nice one Primark. Keeping up with the cool kids. The P.S Love high colour lipstick crayons are a mere £2, and come in a range of fun and colourful shades. The blue shade I snagged is called 'freedom', and here's what it looks like on...

I'll be honest- I didn't have high hopes for this. I thought it would be streaky and sheer and look more like greasy frostbite, but got it out of curiosity anyway. Hell naww. It's satiny and decently pigmented and moisturising. In fact, it's a great colour dupe of Lime Crime's limited edition and discontinued lipstick in 'cry baby', though it's a more slippery formula. Still, not bad for two bob. Not bad at all.

Will the gushing continue? Of course it will.  My third and final lip product is an absolute beauty. It made me want to scream, it was that good. Look- it's the P.S Love super matte liquid lipstick in the shade 'red'.

But. Wow. That is hardly your bog standard average red. It's so VIVID. For only £2, you get a supremely pigmented, brilliantly formulated liquid to matte lipstick with an amazingly precise applicator. It's actually not the least bit uncomfortable. Although it's a true powder matte finish, it somehow manages to feel lightweight, and not a crack or crumble in sight. Bloody hell Primark. Killing the gaaame.

And finally, I got. ... cosmetic glitter! I bloody love glitter. I'm always using it for lip art, and have quite a collection going on. This pack of three is excellent value though. Topshop sells one little pot of face glitter for £5.50, whereas for £2.50, you can get three pots AND a glitter adhesive. Which is kind of very useful for sticking glitter to your face. Primark wins.

Look at the beautiful glitter.

Well. Considering this little haul was such a success, you can bet I'll trot back for more. Until my next waffle,

Xx

Primark p.s love velvet matte lipstick crayon- review and swatches.

When Primark does good makeup, it does good makeup. Case study: their new velvet matte lipstick crayon. It's a stonker.

primark p.s love velvet matte lipstick crayon- wine

I mean just look at it. It's only £2, but it doesn't look all that cheap at all. In fact, if it looks like it might be a dupe for Nars velvet lip pencil, that's because it really is. Similar smooth texture, similar (great) pigmentation and similar (impressive) longevity. Hell, I'm gonna go out and say it: I actually prefer this Primark offering, though obviously there's a limited shade range.

This particular shade is called 'Wine', and is every bit as rich and as deep as the name suggests. In my swatches I'm wearing one swipe, but you can easily build it more intensity. It was comfortable to wear, faded flatteringly to leave a stain, and didn't bleed. what's not to like?

Of course, you'll need a chunky sharpener, but that's no biggie. There are a few other shades on offer, including a mauve-nude, a bright pink and a coral. If you want a comfortable, purse-friendly alternative to a matte lipstick, I highly recommend you try a shade or two.

primark p.s love lipstick- review and swatches

Hello again lovelies. I've got another budget beauty post for you today, and it's back to my trusty and ever pleasing Primark beauty range, P.S Love, and two more of their lipsticks. The first is just a quid, and it is pretty lovely.

There doesn't appear to be shade name for this one, but I'd describe it as a browny-pinky-nude. Of the same colour category as mac Whirl,  I guess. It's a perfect 'my lips but better' shade on me, and is great for reaching for in a hurry because it will polish off your look and will go with whatever makeup/outfit you're wearing. You can't really go wrong with a shade like this, and I think it would suit every skin tone.

The texture of this lipstick is great too. It's a satin finish that keeps lips smooth and moist, and gives medium coverage. It lasts a decent while and doesn't bleed. As a happy bonus, it smells delicious! Like love heart sweets. I could eat it.

Moving swiftly on to lippy number 2. This one is called 'hot pink', because it's hot pink. Ha. It's described as 'deep colour ultra shine' lipstick, which sounded pretty promising. This one was £1.50.

Well, I can totally agree with the deep colour bit. You get fully opaque, intense coverage with this one, which means you get an impressive bang for your buck. As for the ultra shine bit.... well, I'd say it's more of a soft sheen. It's pretty much a satin finish, but that's a-okay in my book. It lasts very well thanks to its pigmentation and slightly waxy texture, and it doesn't dry the lips out. Another general thumbs up, but this one does have an unfortunate caveat: a really unpleasantly strong rose perfume. It's a bit sickening.

Thanks for dropping by, you babe xox

review and swatches: Primark p.s love matte long last lipstick

My mum bought me a lipstick because I was sad. Isn't that cute? It's nowt fancy, but I really like it, and think you will too. It's from Primark, and is only £1.50! Poor kids rejoice.

There she is. The packaging looks a lot like the Max Factor colour elixir lipsticks, though it definitely feels more lightweight. Alas, there are no names, so I can only point you to my shade by description. It looks a true red under store lighting, but is actually a sort of strawberry red, with a pinkish tinge. It's a lovely 'happy' shade, one of those reds that are easy to wear and never look stark.

The formula, thankfully, belies the price tag. It's matte without being drying or uncomfortable, and that's no small feat. We all know higher end brands that struggle to pull it off, right? Cough cough, mac. I really did find it to be long wearing, which I honestly wasn't expecting. Its texture really does stick, and I found it to have minimal transfer. It's well pigmented but not completely opaque. Which is good, because it makes the bright shade much more wearable.

The only complaint I have (other than it not having a name, weep weep), is that it does have quite a strong stawberry scent. I didn't have too much of a problem, but some people might find it cloying. Overall though, it's a thumbs up for me, and just goes to show that budget beauty buys really can surprise you with their quality.

What do you think? Have you tried any other shades or lip products from Primark? How did they fare? x
