Another Primark lipstick review and swatches

New year, new m- ... lol nah, still an emotionally unstable wasteman with an unhealthy dependence on lipstick. So. On to the first review of 2017.

If you're a regular here, you'll know I'm generally a huge fan of Primark's cheap and cheerful makeup. If you're a new visitor, well, er... I'm generally a huge fan of Primark's cheap and cheerful makeup. If you fancy acquainting yourself with a range of their offerings, you can find previous reviews here, here, here and here. Today's ramble, however, will be on the lippies below:

I'll start with the P.S Love matte long last lipstick because it's a tried and tested fave and probably the most widely available throughout Primark stores. The shade is called 'claret' and it costs a mere quid.

Primark p.s love matte long last lipstick- claret

It's pretty damn gorgeous. In real life it's a touch more brown than the maroony shade my camera picked up, and is even deeper and richer. I shit you not. It's deliciously dark with a little building up and matte without feeling dry, and surprisingly non streaky given the colour. I found it wore really well for a traditional bullet lipstick. Not much transfer and none of that dreaded lipstick ring.

If this particular shade is a bit too vampy for your liking, they usually have a few more demure options on offer too.

Primark p.s love metallic liquid lipstick
Up next is the fussy-but-hella-worth-it metallic matte liquid lipstick. Metallic lippies are (rightly) all the rage these days, so I was stoked to find the humble aisles of Primark proffering a cheap option. This shade is a bright and super reflective gold called 'queen'. In the above swatch, I'm wearing it lightly over Neve Cosmetics pastello lip liner in 'rose'.

And you will need some sort of a base, at least with this shade. Applied alone, it dries quickly to form a touch proof film of colour that whilst being dazzling, also looks tight and dry, exaggerating lip lines in a not so pretty way. It looks great as a lip topper though, and will seal your lippy to make it transfer proof.

Oddly, whilst most liquid to matte lipsticks are broken down by oil, this one is dissolved by water. That's not any kind of problem though, at least not for me. Just something to bear in mind if you have a wet snog scheduled.

MOVING ON.

Primark p.s Pro kiss proof liquid lipstick- nude in private
This very pretty shade is called 'nude in private'. Which is odd because it's a mauve and not a nude hue. Shrug. It's from the P.S Pro range so is marginally more expensive than the regular P.S Love stuff. I think it was around the £4 mark, but that's still very affordable.

I really liked the P.S Love liquid matte lippy for its powder-like matte finish and bold colour. This one has a very different formula, but it's still a winner. It's entirely opaque, smells like cake batter, and dries to a touch proof matte finish which still feels a little moist. So long as you don't slather on too much, it doesn't look or feel dry at all.

Oh, and the paddle shaped applicator deserves some praise too. It's wide and flat with a curved top, which gets you a fully painted lip in one sweep and easily clean edges. Win.

Primark p.s Pro sheer shine lip crayon- bubblegum pink
Aaaand ending with the only dud of the bunch: the P.S Pro sheer shine lip crayon. It's shit. I can usually appreciate a good old juicy lip crayon, but this ain't that. It's somehow both greasy feeling and matte looking. It's a pain in the left buttock to get an even finish with and even then, it manages to cling to dry patches you could have sworn you didn't have.

Avoid it like it's your manipulative and not even that attractive ex.

Hope that was helpful.

2true wow! gloss stick- review and swatches

Look yeah, I love me an orange lippy. It's one of my favourite shades. So when I saw this new wow stick by 2true in superdrug, at a mere £2.99, I had to snag the red-orange one, shade 5, called 'powerful pout'.

And it is bloody powerful. The intensity is a little bleached in my crappy phone swatches, but this stuff is OPAQUE. In fact, its pigmentation coupled with its very soft texture means you do have to be careful not to smush on too much. I definitely prefer to use a lip brush.

Because of how pigmented it is, the color lasts for a long time. It has a satin gloss finish though is easily blotted down to a matte, with hardly a dent of compromise on the colour. I would suggest using a clear lip liner with this, as it does have a tendency to bleed.

Another downer is that it's quite hard to sharpen. That softness being pesky again. But honestly, these are minor gripes. This much pigment in such a vibrant colour is hard to come by with budget brands, and I'm super glad I bought this. In fact, I think it's a great product dupe for the Urban Decay super saturated gloss pencil. I think I might review that soon. So watch this space xx

collection work the colour matte lip butter- review and swatches

Summer may be over, but you can bet a juicy bright lip shade will always be in. Collection cosmetics have recently launched their new line of matte lip butters (I've reviewed their galactica lip butter here) some real pretty colours to tempt ya. I picked up 'pumpkin pie', a stonker of a coral.

Look at that shade! Oh it's a thing of beauty. I can tell I'll get a lot of wear from this one, not least because the formula is pretty pleasing too. If it looks like Revlon's matte balm, that's because it really is very similar (though without the mintiness). While I think 'balm' or 'butter' might be pushing it a bit, it is pretty comfy as far as a matte lippy goes.

And as you can hopefully tell by the swatches, it packs a punch on the pigment front! And no streakiness at all. For a mere £2.99, it's an absolute steal and triumphs over its pricier Revlon counterpart. Overall, I'm so glad I picked this up and definitely recommend checking out a shade or two x

Primark p.s love velvet matte lipstick crayon- review and swatches.

When Primark does good makeup, it does good makeup. Case study: their new velvet matte lipstick crayon. It's a stonker.

I mean just look at it. It's only £2, but it doesn't look all that cheap at all. In fact, if it looks like it might be a dupe for Nars velvet lip pencil, that's because it really is. Similar smooth texture, similar (great) pigmentation and similar (impressive) longevity. Hell, I'm gonna go out and say it: I actually prefer this Primark offering, though obviously there's a limited shade range.

This particular shade is called 'Wine', and is every bit as rich and as deep as the name suggests. In my swatches I'm wearing one swipe, but you can easily build it more intensity. It was comfortable to wear, faded flatteringly to leave a stain, and didn't bleed. what's not to like?

Of course, you'll need a chunky sharpener, but that's no biggie. There are a few other shades on offer, including a mauve-nude, a bright pink and a coral. If you want a comfortable, purse-friendly alternative to a matte lipstick, I highly recommend you try a shade or two.

maybelline color drama intense velvet lip pencil- review and swatches

These lip crayons by Maybelline are not new releases. They came out a few seasons ago, and up until recently, I always resisted the urge to buy them. NO, YOU HAVE MORE THAN ENOUGH LIPSTICKS, BEHAVE YOURSELF said my inner sensible person. But then a cheeky money off voucher vapourised my good intentions, and lo and behold, I was the owner of the Velvet Lip Pencil in the shade 'Keep It Classy'.

It's called a 'pencil' rather than a crayon, and for good reason. It's wooden and not twisty-uppy, and looks like a fattened lipliner. In fact, it functions like a fattened lipliner too. Most crayon type lip products tend to be glossy or sheer, but this is opaque, creamy, and long lasting. 'Velvet' is indeed a good descriptor, because it has a plush, semi-matte finish. I love how precise and easy it is to use- line your lips as with a regular lipliner, then use the side of the tip to fill in with colour fast.

And here's what it looks like on:

Maybelline color drama lip pencil- keep it classy

How gorgeous is that colour? It's lovely pinkened berry shade that I bet would suit every single human on the planet. And it's comfortable to wear. And it smells divine. What more could one ask for? (Apart from a sharpener in the lid).

Maybelline's Colour Drama lip pencil is priced at £4.99, which is well worth it. Let us know what you think innit xx
